The Lutron GRAFIK Eye® 3000 and 4000 series control systems can provide limited control to the Color Kinetics iPlayer 2. This is done through the Lutron GRX-AV Contact Interface connected to the iPlayer 2 expansion port. This application note describes how to configure this interface.
Configuration
The GRX-AV Contact Interface provides five contact closure outputs. These outputs are wired to the contact closure inputs on the iPlayer 2 expansion port. In a typical application the first four GRX-AV outputs would select iPlayer 2 shows 1 through 4, while the last output would turn the lights connected to the iPlayer 2 off. On the GRAFIK Eye end this would correspond to scenes 1 through 4 and off.
The GRX-AV should be configured for "Momentary Outputs" by setting DIP switch 7 ON and 8 OFF. The other DIP switches on the GRX-AV should be set appropriately for the application
Wiring
Wiring to the iPlayer 2 expansion port is best done through a screw terminal block attached via a ribbon cable. See the Color Kinetics application note "Using the iPlayer 2 Expansion Port" for third party screw terminal blocks. The total length of the wires between the iPlayer 2 and the GRX-AV (including the ribbon cable) should be less than 3 feet (1 meter).
The following table shows the typical wiring between the iPlayer 2 and the GRXAV.
iPlayer2 | GRX-AV | |
Pin Number | Function | Terminal |
1 | Ground | OUTPUT C |
5 | Show 1 | OUTPUT 1 |
6 | Show 2 | OUTPUT 2 |
7 | Show 3 | OUTPUT 3 |
8 | Show 4 | OUTPUT 4 |
17 | Off | OUTPUT 5 |
