Quality can be poor when using traditional RGB luminaires to create white light. By increasing the number of channels to four or five can increase and improve your light output. Using an RGBW luminaire, it’s possible to achieve the CRI and R9 values of the white channel utilized, and potentially higher if the red channel is also turned on slightly. However, the light output on white will only be approximately 25% of the maximum possible flux. The real challenge is to achieve high CRI and high lumen output simultaneously. Increasing the number of channels to four or five improves both the quantity and quality of the delivered white light.
